I created a blank document with the blog post template and I’ll see if it goes to my blog, which has little content. I should place some of my Star Trek log writing there.
Had to make the switch

I just had to get out from Windstream’s high latency connection over to Time Warner’s. The latter is not tied down to the distance to the CO. At first the connection went south, but after a line replacement from the house to the pole everything is going well. Latency to Garithos (Los Angeles) is between 100 and 200 and not 500-1000ms.
Time Warner does not run their own newsserver, so I’ll have to get one if I want. It has been nice to both play wow, both watch a movie and have Netflix running on the Wii at the same time. Also got their really too big digital cable box. Nice having favorite programs in HD. Need to explore the tv listings more for programs I want to see.

Wii, Windstream, World of Warcraft Leave a comment
A new theme for a site I forget to update. What’s new in review?
- Still playing WoW, new guild however.
- Watching Netflix on the Wii = nice. No Pandora on the Wii = why not?
- Writing more for my sims at these sites: Federation Sim Fleet, Star Trek Simulation Forum and United Space Federation. Mostly the latter.
- Windstream connection has been flaky at night. Investigating switch to TimeWarner if it does not clear up.
- Kids are seven and two now.

Iphone and wordpress
July 5, 2009
Just a short note here as I am writing this on a iPhone via the wordpress app. Seems pretty decent for writing especially with the corrections.
Got a new router from 2wire for wired and wireless. Works really well and the margins are such as I can ask about six megs again.
Long time
June 13, 2009
It has been a really long time since writing here in my blog. I never really figured out what I want to say after all of these months. Due to a closing of an OfficeMax nearby I have a new laptop. Naturally I looked for tweaks since this is not the fastest out there, but for $267 with tax who can complain. What I did find was there are few recent notebook tweak articles out there. Many are dated on ’03/’04 with the most recent being around 2007. I would think with netbooks on the scene and the general popularity of laptops there would be more tweaking articles.
So I am thinking of collected a set of general recommendations and notebook specific tweaks. I have to go now, so more on this later. kbc

Just a note to remind myself to write to this thing more often. Firstly I have a new PC which has been pretty easy to set up and adjust so far. Core 2 Quad, P45 motherboard, 4 gigs of ram. Runs virtualized OSes well: Ubuntu and Windows XP so far. Will try to install Mac OS X 10.5.6 soon.
Reached level 80 with my gnome warlock on World of Warcraft. Have not run a large number of heroics yet.
House is still a bit of a mess after household sicknesses and such. While all of us here could be really anal about keeping everything, we do want to relax.
Here’s a good shot of my son Liam who just turned one a short while ago.

Hardware, windows Leave a comment
Not that anyone cares, but I have recently been able to update my main PC to something released in the last year. Went from a AMD S939 to a P45 775 board, dual core to quad core, 2 gigs to 4 gigs.. you get the idea. It does feel a good deal quicker, due in part to Windows 7, which is still in beta as of this post. I’d like a mid year release for Windows 7, but it will be fall most likely. Also could they make a Vista to 7 upgrade only $99?
Hard Drive RMA

My Western Digital 500gb Elements hard drive bought last year from Target at Black Friday died a couple of weeks ago. The warrantee was almost up and I had them do an advanced RMA. The replacement drive is like what you see in the brick and mortar stores, a plastic book. Runs well so far.
I’m thinking of altering my backup solution. Currently I’m using SyncToy 2.0, but get annoyed at the dialog messages popping up in the middle of the backups. Seems it has trouble previewing what files have changed. I click the dialog boxes away and everything goes on. I may go to SyncBack freeware unless there is a way to tell SyncToy to skip the messages.
Power Back Up
September 21, 2008
Hurricane Ike took out our power around me for three days. We lost the contents of the frig, but nothing major. Going to get new stuff after a lunch today. Was a good way to clear out the old sauces though.
I’m typing this using the new Live Writer Beta. Seems pretty good so far. Will it replace going to the site itself for edits? Not sure yet.

Uncategorized DRM, geforce, PhyX, vacation Leave a comment
I’m back to work after my last vacation of the year. After August 21st of next year I’ll get an additional week of vacation. A long stretch from four weeks (13 years) and five weeks (20 years). Getting back to work was not really a problem, busy, but nothing intense.
Got both Sims 2 and Battlefield 2 to load using Daemon Tools and emulated drives. I have both originals, but I think Vista does not like SafeDisc DRM. I own the games damn it, what more do you want. Odd that I can’t find any way to get it working otherwise.
Just got the new Geforce driver with PhyX support. Wonder if it works on the G80 GPU.
