Short Stuff

Just a note to remind myself to write to this thing more often. Firstly I have a new PC which has been pretty easy to set up and adjust so far. Core 2 Quad, P45 motherboard, 4 gigs of ram. Runs virtualized OSes well: Ubuntu and Windows XP so far. Will try to install Mac OS X 10.5.6 soon.

Reached level 80 with my gnome warlock on World of Warcraft. Have not run a large number of heroics yet.

House is still a bit of a mess after household sicknesses and such. While all of us here could be really anal about keeping everything, we do want to relax.

Here’s a good shot of my son Liam who just turned one a short while ago.

Not that anyone cares, but I have recently been able to update my main PC to something released in the last year. Went from a AMD S939 to a P45 775 board, dual core to quad core, 2 gigs to 4 gigs.. you get the idea. It does feel a good deal quicker, due in part to Windows 7, which is still in beta as of this post. I’d like a mid year release for Windows 7, but it will be fall most likely. Also could they make a Vista to 7 upgrade only $99?

Hard Drive RMA

My Western Digital 500gb Elements hard drive bought last year from Target at Black Friday died a couple of weeks ago. The warrantee was almost up and I had them do an advanced RMA. The replacement drive is like what you see in the brick and mortar stores, a plastic book. Runs well so far.

I’m thinking of altering my backup solution. Currently I’m using SyncToy 2.0, but get annoyed at the dialog messages popping up in the middle of the backups. Seems it has trouble previewing what files have changed. I click the dialog boxes away and everything goes on. I may go to SyncBack freeware unless there is a way to tell SyncToy to skip the messages.
